Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 30, 2026
This Privacy Policy applies to the SnapAtlas™ Photo Organizer desktop application and the SnapAtlas™ website (snapatlas.app, “the Site”), operated by SnapAtlas™ (“we”, “us”).
Summary
- Your photos and videos are completely confidential. They are processed on your computer and are never uploaded, shared, or accessible to us.
- The only information SnapAtlas™ sends off your computer is a calculated point representing a cluster of photos — used to look up a place name — and credit-usage accounting for that service.
- Location requests are anonymous. They are not tied to your name, email, account, or any personal information. We don’t save any information about what you looked up or where you visited.
- Purchases are handled by Microsoft. We never see or store your payment details.
Information processed on your computer and never shared
SnapAtlas™ works entirely on your Windows PC. The following are processed locally and never leave your computer:
- Your photo and video files
- Information extracted from them (dates, places, and other embedded details)
- The library database SnapAtlas™ builds on your machine
- File names, folder names, and the organization of your library
The only exception is the single calculated cluster point described below.
Information transmitted off your computer
Location identification requests
If you use SnapAtlas™‘s place-name lookup feature, SnapAtlas™ sends a calculated point — approximate coordinates representing the center of a cluster of nearby photos — to our mapping service so it can return a place name such as a town, park, or landmark.
- These requests are anonymous: they contain no name, email address, account details, or other personal information. We don’t save any information about what you looked up or where you visited.
- Nothing about the photos themselves is sent — no images, no thumbnails, no file names, no photo dates. The calculated cluster point is the only information about your media that ever leaves your computer.
- If you prefer, you can turn off place-name lookups entirely — the rest of SnapAtlas™ works the same without them.
Lookup credit usage
Use of the place-name lookup service is measured in credits. Credit usage is calculated and tracked by our service software and associated with an anonymous installation identifier rather than your identity. Credit balances and usage records contain no personal information and no information about your photos.
Purchases and licensing
SnapAtlas™ is distributed through the Microsoft Store. Purchases, licensing, refunds, and any optional in-app transactions are processed by Microsoft under Microsoft’s own terms and privacy policies. We do not receive or store your payment information.
The website
The Site is a static website. It does not require an account, does not use analytics or advertising trackers, and does not set tracking cookies. Like any website, its hosting provider may record standard request logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security and troubleshooting; these are retained briefly and not linked to you personally.
What we do not collect
We do not collect or receive:
- Your photos, videos, or any part of them
- Your name, email address, or other contact details through SnapAtlas™
- Browsing or usage analytics
- Advertising identifiers or profiles
Third-party services
- Our mapping service receives anonymous calculated points solely to return place names. To answer those requests it draws on third-party mapping data providers; the requests they see contain no personal information and nothing about your photos.
- Microsoft operates the Store through which SnapAtlas™ is distributed and licensed. Microsoft’s privacy policies govern data it collects in that process.
We do not sell or share personal information with any third party.
Data retention
Your library, media, and personal settings remain on your computer under your control for as long as you keep them. Anonymous lookup records and credit-usage accounting are retained only as needed to operate the service.
Children’s privacy
SnapAtlas™ and the Site are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Security
Because your media never leaves your computer, it is protected by the security of your own device. Anonymous service communications are transmitted over encrypted connections.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
